Happy Birthday Ghana!!

The west African country of Ghana celebrates its 50th year of independence from Britain today and there is much revelry on the streets of its capital, Accra. Numerous world leaders are in the country to help it celebrate including South Africa's Thabo Mbeki, Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe and Olusegun Obasanjo from Nigeria.

Finally, to get a taste of what will be playing in bars in Accra tonight, check out the following link to the music of “Lord Bob Cole" (who may also have been known as Bob Johnson). Cole was a Ghanaian comedian, songwriter, and actor who was a veteran of the Ghanaian Concert Party scene of the 1950’s where highlife music was mixed with comic dramatizations of local events. The link is taken from a great Blog site - Benn loxo du taccu - which showcases music from all over the African sub-continent.

For now, as always, be good and happy,
