Artist of the Day 9: Sigur Ros

Today's 'Artist of the Day' is Icelandic post rock band Sigur Ros. If I were forced to name my favorite band of the last couple of years, on most days, I'd most probably name this band.

The track I am featuring is called "Hoppípolla" and is from Sigur Ros's most recent CD Takk. Released in 2006, the CD has sold over 800,000 copies world wide.

Be entranced.

p.s. if you can't understand the words it is because they are in Icelandic.

Artist of the Day 4: Buddha Bar

For today's 'Artist of the Day' in this week of 'Artist of the Day' [although I am thinking of carrying it on for another week] I have chosen - both in commemoration of the birth of Lord Buddha and mindful of the the fact that many of you will be sporting significant hangovers and body pain after a night of dancing, drinking and [for all I know] much more after the final night of the KAIST festival - a track from the latest Buddha Bar collection of chill out or lounge music.

Released this week [May 22nd to be exact] the collection - like most of those under the 'Buddha Bar' name - features exotic mixes of music from around the world mixed just for people - like many of you - emerging after nights of wild abandonment.

A Song For You:Summer Holiday

This week's / unit's song is Summer Holiday sung by British pop rock singer Cliff Richard.

Seen by many as the British version of Elvis Presley, Cliff dominated the British pop scene in the late 1950's / early 1960's.

Enjoy and sing along to the video!

Summer Holiday:
Cliff Richard

Were all going on a summer holiday.
No more working for a week or two.
Fun and laughter on a summer holiday.
No more worries for me and you.
For a week or two.

Were going where the sun shines brightly.
Were going where the sea is blue.
Weve seen it in the movies.
Now lets see if its true.

Everybody has a summer holiday
Doing things they always wanted to.
So were going on a summer holiday
To make our dreams come true
For me and you.

A Song For You:Operator [That's Not The Way It Feels]

Today's song is Operator {That's Not The Way It Feels] and it is sung by the late Jim Croce.

Jim Croce was a singer songwriter whodied tragically just as his career was about to explode.

Born in Philadelphia in 1943, he died in a plane crash on the 20th September 1773

Operator [That's Not Te Way It Feels]:
Jim Croce

Operator, well, could you help me place this call
See, the number on the matchbook is old and faded
She's living in L.A. with my best old ex-friend Ray
A guy she said she knew well and sometimes hated

But, isn't that the way they say it goes,
but let's forget all that
And give me the number if you can find it,
so I can call just to tell them I'm fine and to show
I've overcome the blow, I've learned to take it well
I only wish my words could just convince myself ,
That it just wasn't real
But that's not the way it feels

Operator, well, could you help me place this call’
Cause I can't read the number that you just gave me
There's something in my eyes - you know it happens every time
I think about the love that I thought would save me

Operator, let's forget about this call
There's no one there I really wanted to talk to
Thank you for your time, you've been so much more than kind
You can keep the dime{Refrain}

A Song For You:Puff the Magic Dragon

This weeks song for you is Puff the Magic Dragon. One of the most famous children's songs in the west, Puff the Magic Dragon was first released by the American folk group Peter, Paul and Mary in 1963.

As you will gather, the song is about a dragon called Puff [ who is magi] and his little human friend, Jacky Paper.

I hope you enjoy....

Puff Magic Dragon:
Peter, Paul & Mary

Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called honah lee,
Little jackie paper loved that rascal puff,
And brought him strings and sealing wax and other fancy stuff. Oh

Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called honah lee,

Together they would travel on a boat with billowed sail
Jackie kept a lookout perched on puffs gigantic tail,
Noble kings and princes would bow wheneer they came,
Pirate ships would lower their flag when puff roared out his name. oh!

A dragon lives forever but not so little boys
Painted wings and giant rings make way for other toys.
One grey night it happened, jackie paper came no more
And puff that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar.

Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called honah lee,

His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain,
Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane.
Without his life-long friend, puff could not be brave,
So puff that mighty dragon sadly slipped into his cave. oh!

Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called honah lee
