Final Exam: Questions & Answers

Please find below the questions and answers for the final exam. Sorry for the delay in putting them up. When I get home I realised that I could not put up the original file containing the copy of the exam as it needed a special program to open and have had to wait until I could scan the paper and answers.

As I mentioned in class, while there were three different versions of the exam, the questions were the same. The version I am giving you is the one for class 1. Classes 2 & 3 will see an exam with a slightly different order than the one they did on Friday.

Hope all goes well with your exams this week. If you have any questions just phone, send and email or come and see me in my quarters in the International Village Building B, Room 5-101.

Song of the Week: Malvina Reynold: Little Boxes

Little Boxes, is a song written by American folk singer Malvina Reynolds in 1962 that, as the cititaion in Wikipedia noes: “… lampoons the development of suburbia and what many consider its bourgeois conformist values”. The song’s best-known version of the song is the one by Pete Seeger and the song is thought to have been “inspired” by Daly City in California. More recently, the song has been featured in the television comedy series Weeds. While the first season used Reynolds’ own recording of the song, the second had a different versions every week including ones by: Elvis Costello, Death Cabbie for Cutie, Regina Spektor, The Submarines, Jenny Lewis and Englebert Humperdink

Song of the Week: Joe South / Inner Circle: Games People Play

This week's song of the week is Games People Play - a song written by singer Joe South. Besides South's recordings, other artists have also recorded the song, including Jerry Lee Lewis, Tesla (on their album Bust a Nut), The Georgia Satellites (on their album In the Land of Salvation and Sin) and Bill Haley & His Comets. In Singapore around 1969, an instrumental version showed up on a single by The White Crane Orchestra. The reggae band Inner Circle also released a cover version, which was quite popular in Europe for a while in the mid-90s. In 2006, it was covered by Jools Holland on his album Moving Out to the Country with guest vocalist Marc Almond [Wikipedia]
