Final Examination: Details

The final Exam will occur next week and will comprise of two parts, one written and one oral.

1: The Written Exam

The written exam will take place Friday next week [Friday the 6th of June] and will consist of a paper that will be completed during your normal class time [i.e. Class 1: 9:00 - 10:00, Class 2: 10:00-11:00, Class 3: 12:00-13:00].

The written exam will include vocabulary, grammar and usage questions and will also include a listening section. The questions will be slightly more difficult variations of the the questions contained in the quizzes for the textbook and the listening section will be drawn from Randall's ESL Cyber Listening Lab [which was introduced in class a couple of weeks ago], the address for which ishttp://www.esl-lab.com/.

All you will need to bring to the exam is a pen (no paper, no mobile phone, no electronic dictionaries, no older brothers or sisters or mothers. Needless to say, anyone caught cheating will be hung, drawn and quartered.

2: The Oral Exam

The oral Exam will consist of an oral introduction similar to the one you gave me during the mid term exam. I was planning to film each presentation but have decided to stick with simply recording the sound so as to avoid any potential technical mishaps.

Among the main aspects I will be looking at in the oral introductions will be:

Pronunciation: how clearly do you speak

Fluency: how easily and fluidly do you express your ideas

Clarity: how clearly you are able to express yourself

Originality: how interesting you are able to make yourself seem.

I will also be interested to some extent in:

Accuracy: the extent what you say is grammatically correct.

The oral presentation should last about 2 minutes and will be recorded at a time to be agreed on in Monday's class.
