1. Walk to the front of the classroom with you head up, your spine straight and shoulders back
2. Spend a few moments standing at the lectern looking directly at the class
3. Say good morning and deliver your quote, looking up at the audience and smiling when you have finished while they clap and,
4. After the applause has died down, walk back to your seat with your head up, you spine straight, and, your shoulders back.

In order to prepare for this task, before next class, choose a couple of favorite sayings, proverbs, or pieces of advice your grandmother might have told you. For example:
•“Do unto other as you would have them do unto you”
•“Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get”
•“Don’t put off for tomorrow what you can do today”

Assessment Task 1:A Basic Speech

The first assessment task will involve you giving a talk to the rest of the class for about 2 to 3 minutes.

Drawing from the material covered in Unit 1 [see the PointPoint Presentations for Lessons 1, 2 & 3 in Unit 1 for details] you will have to give one of the following types of speeches:

1. yourself - a 'self-introduction' speech
2. a personal experience - a 'personal experience' speech
3. a meaningful object - a 'meaningful object' speech
4. a specific fear - a 'specific fear' speech
5. a personal opinion - a 'personal opinion' speech

You can further choose using:

A: photos or pictures - a 'picture story' speech
B: various items - an 'old bag' speech
C: notes based on a worksheet - a 'worksheet' speech

The presentations will take place during the Wednesday and Friday classes in Week 3 [ie. the 18th and 20th of September, and the speaking order will be chosen randomly.

Welcome to the blogspot for English Communication 2 at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology [KAIST] located in the Korean city of Daejeon. The aim of this blogsite is - in addition to providing copies of the PowerPoints and lecture summaries of each learning session / lecture - to provide you links to resources from the Internet-related to each topic covered during the course of the semester.
